Ultrasonic Scaling Certification

The use of the Ultrasonic Scaler by the RDA to remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth in an Orthodontic setting is offered with complete instruction and requires clinical practice and student participation. The participant will be required to pass a written and clinical examination which will include practice on manikins. There are 2 clinical patients require for this course. This is a great expanded function for the Orthodontic Assistant and RDA's as well. This course is a prerequisite for the OAP course. Students are required to bring their safety glasses; all other course supplies are provided.

Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR): All participants involved in the direct provision of patient care must be certified in basic life support procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Re-certification intervals may be within two years. Completion of an DA: 8-hour infection control course and 2 hours of the Dental Practice Act or concurrent enrollment in our COMBO course. RDA: 2-hour infection control course and 2 hours of the Dental Practice Act. 

Documents required: Once enrolled you will need to upload the documents on Canvas.

  • Certificate of Liability Insurance
  • 2 hour infection control if an RDA, if not an RDA 8 hours of infection control
  • 2 hours of Dental Practice Act
  • Copy of Driver's license and RDA or OAP license 
  • Copy of the CPR card from the American Red Cross or Heart Association. (on-line CPR certificates are not acceptable)

Also, this course will include an Infection Control Protocol written exam to reduce your occupation risk of disease transmission. A course final written exam and laboratory examination will be administered at the end of the course. 8 hours of CE credit: DBC Category 1

Photographing, recording, or videotaping any Dental Specialties Institute's program is not allowed without advance written permission From time to time, a photographer may be present and taking photographs of various courses, instructors, and attendees for marketing and advertising purposes. Participants not wishing to be photographed should inform the course director, photographer.
